The inlet of the Brooks Aqueduct

Inlet and Outlet Design

The inlet was designed to channel the incoming water into the flume, thereby speeding up the rate of flow by more than 3 times. At the outlet, the engineers designed a baffle wall that would create a disturbing wave upwards through the whole body of water and cause it to partly deflect to either side.
